Morning Devotional:
When the concept of streaming television became really popular, I loved it. I would latch on to a few favorite television shows and when a show’s newest season would drop, I would plan a weekend and binge watch every episode of the new season back to back. One of my all-time favorite shows started up again just last week and I was really excited about doing my binge watch routine over the weekend but lo and behold, only one episode was released. I found out I would have to wait every week for the next three months for the next episode to come out. For an impatient person like me who likes to rush to the end of a story, well, this was not the best of news.
I am a person who likes to know what’s ahead. I like to know “the plan” and I get antsy when I don’t know what’s coming around the corner. I especially like to know how things will turn out in the end. When I don’t know those things, I find myself overcome by worry and that’s not a good thing. That’s not a God thing, either.
I would love it if God would ease my worry with a sneak peek into the future but instead, God insists that we trust Him for each day. He taught us to pray, “Give us today our daily bread” in Matthew 6:11. In verse 34 of that same chapter, Jesus says, “Don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” It’s tough to set aside worry and choose trust, but if we take it day by day, trusting God is definitely doable.
