Located in the heart of “Minnesota nice” (Mankato, MN), Kinship Radio touches people living in the south Minneapolis suburbs all the way into Story City, Iowa. The scope of oversight includes, but is not limited to: installing and maintaining broadcast equipment at transmitter locations and studios, and installing and maintaining engineering’s IT hardware and software. Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY: Duties include installing and maintaining broadcast equipment at Kinship Radio’s transmitter locations and studios, maintaining the network’s technical operation within FCC guidelines and installing and maintaining IT engineering’s hardware and software. This position reports to and works in tandem with Kinship Radio’s Chief engineer.
Essential Functions
- Regularly travel to scheduled transmitter sites for infrastructure maintenance.
- Perform corrective repairs to all broadcast equipment, through “on call” emergency services.
- Monitor and maintain operation of all radio equipment within FCC rules and regulations. Record all equipment site readings and measurements.
- Assist in the maintenance of the MICB owned towers and lighting systems in accordance with FAA regulations.
- Maintain inventory of spare equipment and associated parts.
- Review the Station Operational Logs in the absence of the Chief Operator.
- Maintain hardware for all IT engineering network systems.
- Oversee maintenance of telephone and internet systems at remote sites and act as liaison with service and hardware vendors.
- Help maintain the Axia hardware and configuration.
- Assist the Program Director and Operations Manager with technical needs associated with the audio automation system and associated software.
- Instruct staff members and trainees related to technical issues.
- Communicate station technical needs to the Chief Engineer
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
- High School diploma or GED.
- Authorized to work in the US legally without sponsorship
- A valid state-issued driver’s license
- Basic Microsoft application, server and associated application skills
- Solid knowledge of electrical and electronic circuits with an ability to read a technical schematic
- Experience with IT systems: networking, WAN, LAN, IP and internet protocol configurations
- Experience with tube and/or solid-state transmission systems
- Solid understanding and experience with broadcast audio automation systems
- Use of basic hand tools needed for installation and maintenance
Preferred Requirements
- Five years practical experience in the broadcast engineering field
- Associates degree in radio engineering technology and/or certification with a related industry association (Society of Broadcast Engineers)
- Working knowledge of Ku-band and/or C-band satellite uplinks and downlink operation
- Experience with the Telos Alliance Axia broadcast system
- Experience with the RCS Zetta automation software or comparable system
Work Environment/Conditions
- This job operates partly in a professional broadcasting environment and at non-developed remote locations.
- This role routinely uses standard office and broadcast equipment:
- This is a full-time position, typically 5 days per week, 8:30-5:00 p.m.
- Some nights, weekend, and holiday hours may be required to support ministry events and/or equipment failures that require restoration of network to full operating condition.
- Routine travel is required to remote transmitter and tower sites.
- Additional travel may be requested to attend educational events and or conferences.
