Burning Question:
What’s one thing you’d like to let go of this season?
Morning Devotional:
The Stress Before the Celebration
Last week our church hosted a big Valentine’s Day banquet. I had agreed to emcee the night and put together a “Newlywed Game” for some couples. I’d been working on it for weeks. The questions were written. The plan was in place.
But by Wednesday or Thursday, I hit a wall.
I was tired. Really tired. And if I’m honest… a little grumpy.
My wife gently said, “You always get this way when you’re stressed.”
She wasn’t wrong.
Then Friday came. The game was hilarious. The room was full of laughter. The night was a success. And by Saturday morning, I felt nothing but relief. Whew. It was worth it.
It made me realize how often stress changes us before the outcome even arrives. We carry the weight of what’s coming, and it affects our attitude, our tone, even how we treat the people closest to us.
Philippians 4:6 says, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”
I had prepared the event, but I hadn’t fully surrendered the stress.
Maybe you’re in that “Wednesday or Thursday” moment right now. Something is coming. A deadline. A conversation. A responsibility. And it’s weighing on you.
Before the relief of Saturday comes, don’t let stress steal your joy, or your kindness. Give it to God now.
Because the same Lord who will carry you through Friday night is with you on Wednesday afternoon.
