Morning Devotional:
We Got Our Wires Crossed
My wife recently went back to school, which means every semester her schedule changes. And when her schedule changes, our whole household rhythm changes with it, especially when it comes to dinner.
I knew for sure that on Wednesdays I was in charge of cooking. That part was clear.
But this particular day was Monday… and I wasn’t sure.
We eat at 5:00. The clock kept creeping forward. 4:15… no dinner started. I texted her, but of course she didn’t respond, because she was in class. Finally, I just decided to make dinner. I figured it was better to guess and be wrong than to do nothing and definitely be wrong.
Turns out, it was the right call.
Later, we realized we had simply gotten our wires crossed. Maybe she told me and I forgot. Maybe I wasn’t listening closely enough. Either way, the communication hadn’t happened, but we figured it out.
It made me think about how often this happens in our walk with God. Not because He isn’t speaking, but because we aren’t always listening carefully.
Sometimes we’re waiting for perfect clarity from God before we act, when what He really wants is simple obedience with what we already know. Love people. Serve your family. Do the next right thing.
Because often, the right call is simply to step forward and do what love requires.
