What Day is it?

Burning Question:

It’s World Kindness Day! What are some ideas for random acts of kindness we can do today?

Morning Devotional:

Being in a profession where the words we speak matter, it can be embarrassing when words come out wrong.

Take for instance a blog I read just yesterday morning by a well-respected Christian radio professional. He shared how he saw someone on social media advise their friend with the flu, “You should try euthanasia.” He was pretty certain echinacea was what they meant to say. Another person shared how they were complaining about a stiff neck in the grocery store checkout line and the lady ahead of her told them they should see a psychiatrist. Talk about an awkward end to a conversation! It was only later that they realized she meant to say chiropractor.

We can get a chuckle out of those mix-ups, but they serve as a reminder that our words have power, and a single wrong word can change everything. Paul writes in Ephesians 4:29: “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.”

Words can build up and encourage people, or serve to confuse or tear people down. Let’s make a point to choose our words wisely, making sure they are the right ones at the right time, bringing grace to those who hear them.
