What Day Is It?

Burning Question:

It’s National Uplift Someone Day!  Who deserves a big ol’ “Well done?”

Morning Devotional:

The other night I was startled to see a number of emergency vehicles on the street outside my home. Before I knew it, an EMT was ringing my doorbell, asking me if I knew a neighbor on my street. I didn’t, but I happened to have a phone number for her, which apparently, she didn’t answer. After more than an hour or so of watching the activity on my street, I realized what was going on. My elderly neighbor had fallen in her home, broken her hip, and was unable to contact help on her own.

Moments like that always make my heart drop. I have worked in an emergency room setting and anytime I hear sirens, I instinctively fear the worst and pray accordingly. Those moments also kick my prayer engine into overdrive because spiritually I fear the worst – the moment when a person’s eternal destination is on the line.

The Bible says we do not know the number of our days. Our final day here is unknown, but our destination doesn’t have to be. We can be ready for eternity by knowing one person.

Jesus said in John 11:25, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die.”

We are made ready for eternal life by knowing the One who defeated death. By accepting Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, our eternal hope is secured, no matter when or how that final moment arrives.
