What Day Is It?

Burning Question:

It’s National Stop Bullying Day. Can you think of a time when someone stood up for you when you were being picked on?

Morning Devotional:

I can understand the decision. For the sake of practicality, the convenience store chain is phasing out the penny. In the economy of their business, our smallest coin just isn’t worth the effort anymore. According to the U. S. Treasury, the penny is now more expensive to mint than its actual value. I have a ton of pennies at home and I’m trying to figure out what to do with them.

It’s a reminder of how the world assigns value, and how easy it is to feel like that soon-to-be obsolete coin. Thankfully, I am a citizen of God’s kingdom, where value is measured completely differently. His love isn’t based on efficiency, and Jesus confirms this in Matthew 10:30-31: “And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.

While a convenience store may discard the penny, our Creator doesn’t round us down or call us insignificant. We are not a coin to be phased out, but a treasure worth everything to Him.
