What Day is it?

Burning Question:

Who do you owe?

Morning Devotional:

I’m trying to teach Abbie how to shake her paw. I’ll tell her first to “sit,” and she’ll do it. She’s good at sit. When it comes to learning the new trick, though, she doesn’t have the patience for it. If she can’t convince me to give her the treat right away, she’s trying to grab the treat from my hand. She thinks eating that treat is far more important than learning the new trick, which would earn her more treats down the road.

How often are we like my Abbie in our relationship with God? He’s trying to teach us patience, trust, or humility, but we get distracted by our own plans and desires. I bolt after things that seem more attractive, things I think are better for me. The Bible reminds us, though, that a wise heart is a teachable one. Proverbs 9:9 says, “Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be still wiser; teach a righteous man, and he will increase in learning.”

We have to remember that God is a patient Master who is training us for our own good. My prayer today is that I would be willing to sit at His feet, ready and eager to learn whatever new thing He wants to teach me.
