What Day is it?

Burning Question:

What’s a skill, recipe, or tradition you learned from your grandparents?

Morning Devotional:

I was sitting in my hairdresser’s chair last night, and she could see the exhaustion written all over my face.

I had a packed evening ahead of me, and frankly, I didn’t know how I was going to get through it. After she finished applying my hair color, she gave me a gift I wasn’t expecting. She turned off the radio in the salon, said to me, “Rest your eyes for a bit,” dimmed the lights and walked out.

For the next 20 minutes, she gave me the incredible gift of rest. It was exactly what I needed to recharge and face the remainder of my day.

To me, my friend became a good shepherd yesterday. A good shepherd knows his sheep can’t get a drink from a rushing river. He has to lead them to a place where the water is calm and still. My life right now feels like I’m drinking from a fire hose. Even when life is full of good things, it can become overwhelming.

I believe God provides little pools of ‘still water’ in our hectic lives. The question is, are we moving so fast that we rush right past them?

When God leads you to a moment of stillness today, I hope you’ll stop, take a long, refreshing drink, and just rest. He knows exactly what you need.
