Burning Question:
Who is someone you owe an apology to?
Morning Devotional:
I took on a task yesterday that I have been putting off for weeks. I scrubbed out my garbage cans.
The cans have reeked for quite some time, and I couldn’t take the stench any longer. So out came the garden hose and the cleaner and I went to town. It didn’t take long before I made an error in judgment. A poorly aimed spray of the hose sent tainted garbage can water directly onto my face and in my eyes.
I quickly flushed out my eyes, saying farewell to the pair of contact lenses I was wearing in the process. It didn’t take long to clean myself up or finish cleaning the garbage cans, but the sensation of grime in my eyes stayed with me a lot longer than I expected – so much that I had a hard time reading or doing anything that required close-up work for the rest of the evening.
Have you ever thought about how many times someone needed to have their eyes opened in God’s Word? Or how often someone needed to have a better view of what was happening around them? I’m reminded of Elisha’s servant, who needed to know that a heavenly army was on their side when they were facing an enemy. There was Paul, who had to be blinded for days before he could truly see the truth of who Jesus is. The prayer, “open my eyes, Lord” is one of the best you can pray, because it’s a sure-fire way to get rid of the worldly gunk clouding your vision and see the spiritual reality around you – and the God that is so much more powerful.
