What Day is it?

Burning Question:

It’s National Google.com Day!  What is the strangest thing you have ever found yourself researching?

Morning Devotional:OK

I have a concrete patio in my backyard that has become a tripping hazard. The ground underneath it has settled, and a couple of the slabs are sinking. Thinking the problem could be fixed with mud-jacking, I called a concrete company to see what it would cost to do it. A guy came out, took a look at the patio and said, “Oh yeah, I can take care of that.”

He then said something that stuck with me. “The problem isn’t your concrete, though,” he said. “The concrete is good. The problem is the foundation underneath it. The fix is to make the foundation solid again.”

It got me thinking about my spiritual life. How often do I feel like one of my uneven patio slabs? I might try to fix a surface-level problem but just like my patio, the real issue isn’t the surface behavior. The problem is what’s going on underneath.

Jesus taught about this in Matthew chapter seven. He warned that a house built on sand will fail in a storm, but one built on rock would stand firm. My patio problem is a really good reminder of this. Am I resting on the Lord’s unchanging truth, or am I standing on something that is bound to shift? True stability only comes from Him as our firm foundation.
