Burning Question:
When did you end up on a side quest?
Morning Devotional:
I found an interesting tidbit of trivia that reminded me of an important aspect of the Christian walk. Did you know that the coat of arms for the country of Australia depicts the kangaroo and the emu? I have no idea if this is true or not, but according to the trivia book, the two animals were chosen to be on the emblem because neither animal can move backwards easily.
The emu is the only species of bird with calf muscles and are known as fast sprinters, but they can’t walk backwards. The kangaroo’s muscular legs, big feet and tail also hinder it from walking in reverse as well. It is believed the two animals were picked for the coat of arms to symbolize the concept of forward motion – something I believe we need to take up as believers.
It was certainly demonstrated in the lives of Jesus’ first disciples. Mark records in his gospel that when Jesus said to Simon and Andrew, “Come, follow Me and I will make you fishers of men,” the men immediately left their nets and followed Him without hesitation. Those of us who trust in Jesus as Lord must have that same mindset. We are to follow the Lord wholeheartedly, with no thought of moving in reverse. Perhaps we need to train our spiritual legs to do so.
