Burning Question:
What is a small, everyday way you remind people around you that you follow Jesus?
Morning Devotional:
I had a moment in time that I’m pretty sure I shared with at least one other person last night. I thought every other person in Minnesota was in their car and on the road at the same time I was!
Traffic was crazy as I drove home from my Labor Day weekend getaway. I saw a couple of car crashes and a sizable number of people getting pulled over for speeding. I was also ground to a halt in bumper to bumper traffic in the Twin Cities for a short time. That’s always fun. What little relaxation I got over the weekend quickly faded away and my perspective shifted to the frustrations of the reality in front of me.
In the melee, however, I received a much needed nudge from the Lord. It was a simple instruction, straight from Colossians 3:2: “Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.”
It was the perfect course correction, a reminder that in every moment, we have a choice. I can let my mind dwell on a frustrating commute, or I can think about the time I had with the people I love. I could use the alone time in the car to thank God for His goodness. I could use the solitude to pray and place my worries in His hands. The traffic all around me was and is temporary. The highway I may be driving on today is not my eternal home. And that perspective changes everything.
