Burning Question:
It’s Never Give Up Day! Who in your life do you think of when you hear that phrase?
Morning Devotional:
There is an activity I enjoy in mid-August, and it is honestly one of the easiest things I ever do.
I sit in the backyard and stare at the night sky.
That’s because it is the time one of the most vivid astronomical events, the Perseid meteor shower, is at its peak. I try every year to find a place where it is pitch black, look up and watch as hundreds of meteors flash across the sky\. As I do it, I can’t help but think of the amazing creativity of our God.
As I turned in for the night last night, I happened to read Psalm 103. Verse 11 says, “For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is His love for those who fear Him.” I read that and thought to myself, there is nothing that happens in the sky that can compare with the size and grandeur of God’s love for me. Those meteors in the Perseid meteor shower? They burn up just fifty miles above our heads, but when we talk about how big God’s love is, there is no measure.
I missed the peak of the Perseids this year, but that is just an appointment on the calendar. God’s love, however, is not. It is a constant and brilliant reminder of His grace, available to us every single night. We don’t need to wait for a special event to be filled with awe or praise His name. We need only to look up.
