Serving Jesus Means What?

“Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves me.” –  John 12:26 (NIV)

Have you noticed that pretty much anywhere you look, success always seems to be measured by titles, influence, and achievement? Yet when we look at the Word, Jesus redefines greatness. He doesn’t call us to climb the highest social ladders or collect shiny trophies; He calls us to serve. It’s not a secondary task or a side job—it is the highest calling of the believer.

John 12:26 also reminds us that service is inseparable from following. Jesus doesn’t say, “Serve me from a distance,” or “Support my mission occasionally.” He invites us to walk with Him, to be where He is, and to live a life of close communion with Him through humble, loving obedience. Notice the reward: “My Father will honor the one who serves me”. What a breathtaking promise! The Great I AM recognizes and celebrates the one who chooses to serve Jesus with a faithful heart.

So, I guess there are a couple questions we should be asking ourselves. Am I following Jesus closely in the way I serve, or just doing things for Him at a distance? What distractions compete with my calling to serve Jesus wholeheartedly?

Remember, this is a joyful calling! It has a lot to do with the posture of your heart… the place that can’t be seen with natural eyes. But God sees what’s done in honor of His son.

My friend, keep showing up. Keep loving well. Keep answering the call.
