What Day is it?

Burning Question:

What’s a lesson your father taught you that you still carry today?

Morning Devotional:

Have you ever been 100 percent successful in taking charge of your life? It has never happened to me.

Many of us struggle with letting God have complete control over our lives. The self-sufficient “I can take care of it myself” streak in me rears its ugly head a lot. I like devising a plan and sticking to it, but God always has something better and His ways of getting us to navigate His plan aren’t always the most comfortable.

I was feeling that way when I went to the Word the other night and stumbled on a verse I hadn’t seen before. Jeremiah 10:23 says, “Lord, I know that people’s lives are not their own; it is not for them to direct their steps.” That verse points to two important truths we have to accept. One, our lives don’t belong to us; and two, we are not the ones who are ultimately in control of our lives. If the Lord is truly our Lord, we should be surrendering our will and our plans to His. Giving up control to Him isn’t easy but trust me – it’s always worth it.
