Burning Question:
What is your favorite Bible verse and why?
Morning Devotional:
I was really hoping for a good downpour yesterday. My car was looking pretty rough, coated in a healthy layer of Minnesota dust, and I thought, “Perfect! A good hard rain will take care of this for me.” I even parked my car in the driveway so it could get a free wash. But did it rain? Hardly a drop. I even forgot to add washer fluid to my car so I couldn’t even clean the windshield. I am going to go to a car wash to get the cleaning my car needs.
How often do we wait for something external to satisfy a deep thirst within us? We might look to a new relationship, a promotion, a bigger house, or even just a good day to feel fulfilled. But these things often leave us wanting more.
In John chapter four, Jesus has a conversation with a woman at a well. In that conversation, He offered her something far greater than the water she could draw temporary relief. He spoke of “living water” – a spring welling up to eternal life (John 4:10-14). What He offered wasn’t just a fleeting thing – it’s the constant, ever-flowing source of refreshment for our souls.
Just as my car needed the deliberate cleansing of the car wash, our hearts need the living water that only Jesus can provide. So, instead of waiting for the next external “rainstorm,” let’s turn to the unfailing wellspring of Jesus, the living water we truly need.
