What Day Is It?

Burning Question:

It’s National Superhero Day!  If you could have any superpower for one day, what would it be – and what would you do with it?

Morning Devotional:

My heart started beating a little faster when I heard it. The forecast for tonight calls for storms, and severe storms at that.

Now I enjoy a good hard thunderstorm. I love lightning that flashes across the sky and thunder that doesn’t just boom but rolls as well. But when storms get severe, that’s when I go into action mode. I prepare for them.

If I’m here at work, I think through all of the what ifs that could affect how we share information with you, and what the rest of the staff has to do in order to do their jobs and stay safe. When I’m home, I prepare as well. Should the patio furniture be moved inside? Is my flashlight working? Is my phone charged?

Other than my roof losing a few shingles a couple of years ago, I have never been in a situation where I or my property have been damaged in a storm. On the other hand, some of those “storms of life” have done some damage.

Those sudden, unexpected crises that creep up on us can really turn our world upside down. They don’t have to, though, when we place our trust in the One who is in control of them and promises to be by our side to help us ride them out. In Isaiah 41:13, we find this promise from the Lord:  “For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.”

If you see a storm coming your way, know that it’s not taking God by surprise. Reach for His hand and know He is your help and refuge.
