Burning Question:
It’s National Take a Chance Day! What is one thing you’ve been hesitant to try that God might be nudging you toward?
Morning Devotional:
My Abbie loves being able to play with other puppies her age, but her size makes this dog mom very nervous. During our puppy kindergarten classes, all of the puppies are let off of their leashes so they can play together. Abbie’s classmates are at least four times her size – but she has the most energy by far.
Monday night’s puppy class included a beautiful 15-week-old Newfoundland. Weighing in at about 50 pounds, the Newfie was almost ten times my dog’s size. This meant nothing to my little Abbie. As soon as her leash was off, Abbie charged the Newfoundland like it was a rotisserie chicken dinner. She flung herself on top of the dog, begging for attention and an immediate friendship. The Newfoundland couldn’t have cared less. Abbie was no threat to her.
Abbie was quite fearless in that moment, but I know better as she is actually afraid of a lot of things. Vacuum cleaners send her running into the back bedroom closet, and last night I learned she is terrified of the sound of microwaved popcorn.
What do you fear? I am afraid of mice, snakes and large, furry spiders – they send me running! At times, I am also afraid of rejection, conflict, change, and the feeling that my needs won’t be met. Over the years, I have learned that those fears are unfounded because I trust in a God who loves me and cares for me.
I wish I had the kind of courage that would let me charge toward the enemy the way Abbie tackled the Newfoundland pup. I have to talk myself into that kind of faith, just like David did in Psalm 27. He wrote, “The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid?”
You don’t have to let your fears get the best of you. Let the Lord take on the enemy for you instead. There’s no reason to be afraid because He has all things under control.
