What Day Is It?

Burning Question:

What is the nicest thing someone has done for you when you were sick?

Morning Devotional:

One of the most exciting moments in a sporting event is when that last minute, surprise play happens that changes the course of the game. That punt fake and long bomb pass that puts the football into the end zone, the nearly full court shot for a basket at the buzzer in basketball – those plays are the kind that change everything. I love those moments, and that’s a reason why I am so drawn to a particular event surrounding Jesus’ crucifixion.

Luke’s account contains one of those last-minute plays. As Jesus hung on the cross, two criminals were crucified alongside Him. One was hurling insults at Him, but the other criminal made a desperate request. “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.”

That criminal knew this would be his last play. The proverbial buzzer was about to sound, but when confronted with his sin and his eternal future he made the winning play, as proved by Christ’s response.

“Truly I tell you,” Jesus said, “You will be with Me in paradise.”

A thief found forgiveness and grace from a Savior who not only died with him, but for him. Jesus did the same for you. Don’t wait until the last play of the game to receive Him.
