What Day Is It?

Burning Question:

Quick, what did you last read in your Bible?

Morning Devotional:

In a moment of sheer boredom, I decided to study a site on the internet highlighting the last, dying words of famous people. I have no idea if what is on this site is true, but the information is interesting nonetheless.

For instance, according to the website, poet Emily Dickinson’s last words were, “I must go in for the fog is rising.” Major league baseball player Moe Berg’s last words apparently were, “How did the Mets do today?” Radio and TV soap opera writer Charles Gussmann, who was quoted as saying he wanted his last words to be memorable, apparently said, “And now a word from our sponsor.”

It was an interesting read that had me thinking about how a person’s final words to those around them would highlight their life’s priorities. After Jesus’ resurrection, the Word says he appeared to his eleven disciples, and gave them a final instruction – a lasting word to them and us. “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” Words we should definitely pay attention to and follow.
