What Day Is It?

The Burning Question:

What is your advice for people over 40?

Morning Devotional:

There has been a construction project going on just outside the Kinship Radio studios for much of the summer. It started as a building demolition and reconstruction but it has now expanded to street reconstruction and this week, underground utility work is underway. To make a long story short, our block has been a dizzying combination of construction noise, backed up traffic and the dreaded orange cones and detour signs. There may be a defined first day of fall, but when exactly does road construction season end?

As I left for lunch yesterday, I was confronted by a new route through the construction zone and with it, a great deal of confusion. In front of me was a detour sign clearly pointing to my right. The flow of traffic was moving to my left. The driveway to my workplace was not ten feet beyond the detour sign, with a clear path for me to drive through. Do I follow the sign, go with the flow, or take advantage of the open path before me?

I think we all have been at that intersection at one point in time when it comes to our faith walk. We have been faced with a difficult choice and don’t know which path to take. That’s when we have to do what God’s Word tells us to do. Proverbs 3:5-6 says to “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him and He will direct your paths.

We have to ask the Lord to show us the way to go in our faith journey. It may mean a little extra time at the intersections, but it’s important to get the turns right.
