What Day Is It?

The Burning Question:

What is your favorite fall tradition and why does it mean so much to you?

Morning Devotional:

A friend and I were shopping not too long ago and we passed a specialty bakery that was selling fresh baked breads and pastries. It’s pretty difficult for us to forgo something like that but we did, knowing we would pass the store once again a little later in the day.

When we returned, we discovered that most of the items we wanted were sold out. Seeing our disappointment, the clerk told us our plight was a common one. Their products were so popular, if a customer didn’t purchase an item when they first saw it, it was a sure guarantee it would be gone the second time around.

Life doesn’t always give us second chances, especially in the areas that truly matter. Sure, we may get a second opportunity at a prime parking spot or a front row ticket at the concert of a lifetime, but the big stuff? Things like an unkind word spoken in the heat of the moment or years of abandonment or neglect in a relationship aren’t exactly the easiest do-overs. But we have a God who can take those kinds of things – all of the things we mess up – and turn them around.

In 1 John chapter one it says, “If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. But if we confess our sins, God is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” He is the God who gives us second chances, and third and fourth chances and more. It’s never too late to seek His forgiveness and keep trying to get it right.
