The Burning Question:
It’s National Make Your Bed Day. If you could skip one daily chore forever, what would it be?
Morning Devotional:
Have you ever written a personal mission statement? I was challenged to do that several years ago. Mine went something like this: “To lead people into a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ through music, message and ministry.” I like to think I am fulfilling that mission today and improving upon it as well.
I read someone else’s personal mission statement not too long ago, a man by the name of Steve Scheibner. He calls his a “life objective,” and he shared his in an article he wrote several years ago. In it, Scheibner commits to “seek, trust and glorify God through humble service and continual prayer; to raise up qualified disciples as quickly as possible so that one day I might hear God say, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant.’”
You may not know who Steve Scheibner is, but he is a commercial pilot and Scheibner was supposed to fly American Airlines flight 11 on September 11, 2001, but he was bumped by another pilot who wanted to take the assignment instead. A pretty sobering day for him for obvious reasons but it was one that propelled Scheiber to deeper service to God and fulfillment of his personal mission.
Hopefully it doesn’t take a national tragedy to inspire you to commit your life to serving God. I can tell you this. When I see Him face to face I want Him to say to me, “Well done, good and faithful servant, well done.”
