The Burning Question:
What did you accidentally say to someone?
Morning Devotional:
I have a routine I follow pretty closely on Sunday mornings. I wake up at the same time I do on workdays so as not to upset my sleep schedule. I do my Bible reading right away but on Sunday mornings, I place an online grocery order before I get ready for church.
You may be thinking that might be a little odd but here’s the thing. I despise grocery shopping. I am the first person to give in to impulse buys, I hate waiting in checkout lines, and when church is done I just want to go home and crash. The online ordering, drive through pickup option has worked well for me. Yesterday, the Lord had a different plan.
When I went to place my order, the Lord clearly told me not to do it. Instead, I was to go to the store and shop inside. He then told me I was not to go to my usual grocery store. I was to shop at another location and, when I was ready to leave that store, I was to make sure I used the longest checkout line.
Wanting to be obedient to the Lord’s instructions, I did what He asked. Because I followed His instructions, I ran into two people I have not had contact with in years – people I have been praying for and longing to know where they were and what had happened to them.
It doesn’t have to be hard to follow God. Sometimes it can be fun! There’s a prayer in the Word I have used to help me in this area. Psalm 143:10 says, “Teach me to do your will, for you are my God; may your good Spirit lead me on level ground.”
