The Burning Question:
What recently made you laugh out loud?
Morning Devotional:
I ran into an old friend yesterday, someone I haven’t seen in a few years. We didn’t have long to talk but in just a few minutes we were able to catch up on what was happening in our lives. The biggest revelation in our conversation was that she was about to retire from her job.
My friend told me how she came to the decision. A planned surgery and prolonged recovery period happened to coincide perfectly with her expected retirement date. She told me how she wrestled with whether or not she should really retire or wait a little longer, and wondered what she could possibly do once she was out of the workforce. She kept circling to this one question – do I have a purpose? What is my purpose in this stage of life? As she talked, she quickly came to this conclusion: Yes, and her job wasn’t what defined it.
Each of us has been given a unique purpose and plan by God that only we can complete. The Bible assures us of this. Ephesians 2:10 says that “we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” Whether salaried or volunteer, let’s make sure what we put our hands to is for His glory.
