Morning Devotional:
In an attempt to put up my Christmas tree yesterday afternoon I moved some furniture and pulled a muscle in my back. I have a bad back in the first place and knew as soon as it happened that I wasn’t using proper mechanics when I was doing the work. Thankfully, this most recent injury is far from my worst but the sting is still there.
I am prone to pain when I carry too much weight and that’s not only the case physically but spiritually as well. The hurt from carrying my spiritual baggage often hurts much, much more. Things I often carry such as shame, regret, worry, guilt, resentment, sin – all of those are too much to bear. That’s why I love the Lord because He’s not only strong enough to carry all of those things, He’s willing to take them. Psalm 55:22 says to “cast all your cares on the Lord and He will sustain you.” That’s good news for those of us who tend to carry the weight of the world on our own.
