Morning Devotional:
If I have one complaint about the Christmas season, it’s this: Christmas feeds my Martha side.
I am always too busy during the holiday season, and I don’t really do much as far as holiday celebrations are concerned. There always seems to be too much work to do at work, and too much work to do at home. There’s too much decorating to finish, too much shopping to do, too much cleaning, too much preparing, too much planning, too much packing, too much worrying about all the stuff and where does all that get me? Frustrated and exhausted.
Holiday panic mode was about to strike yesterday when I stumbled upon a quote on a friend’s social media page that hit home. It read, “It takes courage to rest and play in a culture where exhaustion is seen as a status symbol.” As I took that in, I could almost hear the Lord respond, “There’s grace for you to rest in Me.”
In Luke chapter 10, we read how Martha was worried and concerned about a lot of things. Mary on the other hand? She was doing what was necessary – resting in the Lord’s company. In the busyness of the Christmas season, let’s be sure to enjoy time in His presence.
