Morning Devotional:
One of the things I enjoy doing in my spare time is explore real estate listings. Not that I am moving anywhere anytime soon, and I love the house I have right now – I just enjoy looking at homes and imagining what my dream home might be someday.
Mine would have all the amenities. A beautiful, open floor plan. A bright, spacious home office space. A backyard patio with lots of outdoor seating and built in fireplace. Lots of room for my sound equipment and lots of soundproofing to play music as loud as I want. And room for friends and family to come and stay anytime they want. It’s a grand plan in my head, but it’s a plan that pales in comparison to the home that is waiting for me and all who believe in Jesus Christ.
Have you pondered heaven lately? Do you wonder what that will be like? What it will be like to be there with the Lord? In John 14, we learn that the Father’s house has many rooms, and a place is being prepared there for us even now. We read in Revelation of streets of gold and treasuries of jewels that adorn the New Jerusalem. We read how there’s no sun, no moon and no stars, and how the presence of God himself lights up the place. Put that on a real estate listing. But here’s what I love the most. No matter what it looks like, I love the description of what I will experience when the time comes – a place where God will wipe every tear from our eyes. There will be no more “death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”
In Revelation 21, John gives us a glimpse of Heaven in a way that we as humans will be able to understand. All of the things we deal with here on earth… sin, pain, tears, death, sorrow, suffering… all these things do not exist within the perfection of Heaven. Without those being a factor, what will eternity look like? It will be just that! It will be the absence of everything that is wrong with life here on earth, and full of the presence of God.
