Morning Devotional:
On Friday I was in my office thinking I could catch up on some stuff before I went home for the weekend. Ha! I got completely bogged down by all of the correspondence I needed to take care of. There were people to contact, messages to return and not enough time to do it all. I put my nose to the grindstone, though and got to work, responding to email after email, sending out text messages and messaging a few more contacts online. No sooner than ten minutes later I had three messages going at one time and more emails in my inbox to take care of. I ended up spending a good chunk of the weekend sorting much of it out.
Fast forward to last night. I finally felt like I had conquered the last mountain of correspondence from the previous week and when I went to sit down and talk to the person I needed to converse with the most – God – I struggled. I was exhausted. I couldn’t focus on Him. I had been so weighed down with the messages that needed to be sent that week that I had neglected to send out the one that had the highest priority: “God, I need You!”
When I find myself talking about communication with the Lord, or with anyone for that matter, James 4:8 has to come to the forefront of my mind first. “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.” The very action of drawing near to Him means I have to yield control of my will, my action plan, everything in order to plug into Him and His power. When I do, I find that I can draw upon what I need to complete the rest. Does God have your full attention today?
