Morning Devotional:
It’s no secret that housework is my least favorite activity, especially doing dishes. I would much rather resort to paper plates and disposable silverware than wash dishes any day. Still, it was a surprise when my afternoon chai treat was about to be spoiled by my lack of diligence in the dish scrubbing arena.
I had filled a mug with water and put it in the microwave for a couple of minutes to heat up, and as I was about to add the tea mix, I saw that the water in my mug was already a light beige color. Apparently, my mug already had some caked chocolate sludge-type substance on the bottom of it from a previous use. Needless to say, I chose a different mug and the offending one was put in the sink for another go at a wash. My second attempt at a chai tea went without a hitch, but the delayed gratification gave me the opportunity to ponder just how imperfect I am.
When it comes to sin, I am definitely not a perfect person. None of us are. Paul writes in Romans that “all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” It would be easy to think that we are hopelessly stained with sin, but that’s where Jesus comes in. His work on the cross made the way for our sins to be forgiven and for us to be perfectly clean.
