Morning Devotional:
Today is Juneteenth. Juneteenth is a holiday that commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. It is a day to celebrate freedom and to reflect on the journey that African Americans have taken to achieve equality. As we Think about Juneteenth, it is also important to reflect on the sin that has trapped so many people, both then and now. Sin is anything that separates us from God. And we are all Sinners. No matter what our sin, we are all trapped by it. We cannot free ourselves. We need God’s help to break free from the bondage of sin. In the book of Galatians, Paul writes about the freedom that we have in Christ. He says that we are no longer slaves to sin, but we are free to live in the Spirit. However, Paul also acknowledges that we still struggle with sin. He says that we have a “fleshly nature” that wars against our spirit. This fleshly nature is what leads us to sin. So, how do we break free from the bondage of sin? The answer is found in Jesus Christ. Jesus came to earth to die for our sins. He paid the price for our sin so that we could be free. When we put our faith in Jesus, we are forgiven of our sins and we are given the power to live a life that is free from sin. Juneteenth is a day to celebrate freedom. It is also a day to remember that we are all trapped by sin. But thanks to Jesus Christ, we can be free. If you are trapped by sin, I encourage you to put your faith in Jesus. He is the only one who can set you free.
