Morning Devotional:
I couldn’t believe it. For a moment, he actually listened.
We all at one point in time or another have received a spam call. Lately I have been receiving a lot of them and not long ago, I decided that if the situation presented itself in a certain way and I had the time, I would engage a scammer in a conversation. That time presented itself yesterday afternoon. The caller raised a question and I countered by saying this: “Only if you answer a question for me first. Do you know Jesus Christ personally?”
Normally, a scammer will either hang up on me instantly or keep pressing me with their tactics but once in a while, I’ll get somebody who will listen – and for a couple of minutes yesterday afternoon, this person did. I shared my 60-second testimony – how in college I was trapped in depression and despair until a friend gave me a Bible and showed me where it said that God loved me with an everlasting love. I told him how I wanted to end my life because I was so consumed by shame but when I realized that God sent His Son Jesus Christ to die on a cross for me to save me from all of that, I could be free of sin and shame and guilt and experience life, I had to receive Him as Lord and I told him that he could too.
I wish I could say that he did yesterday. I think he got scared, but I know He heard the truth, and I was glad I stepped out of my comfort zone to do what the apostle Peter encourages us to do. “Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.” (1 Peter 3:15)
