Morning Devotional:
Yesterday was one of those days where it seemed like all I did was fight the clock.
Daylight Saving Time. Those three words can bring about a certain dread at times, especially the day when we lose that precious hour of sleep like we did yesterday. I’m still adjusting to my new early morning schedule, so I enjoyed having daylight come a little later in the morning on Sunday. To be honest, I regretted my lazy morning later.
My evening was a rush to get things ready for the following workday. I had meals for the week to prepare, work clothes to run through the laundry, a plan to set in place for the morning’s workload complete with emails and documents to draft and have at the ready for my staff. I worried I wouldn’t get everything done that I needed to do, I worried about what the day would hold, and when I finally went to bed last night – at a time too late for my own good – I alternated between staring at the ceiling and staring at my clock, worried that I wasn’t going to get enough sleep.
Do you ever find yourself fearing that there won’t be enough time, or money or love, for you to be okay? Fear can enter into our lives through what is called a scarcity mindset, the thought process that says you will never have enough of something. For me yesterday, it was time – something as simple as focusing on that silly missing hour. We don’t have to focus on fear, though, because God didn’t give us a spirit of fear. Instead, He gave us a spirit “of power and of love and of a sound mind.” (2 Timothy 1:7) Ask God today where you might be focusing on fear and ask Him to help you change it out for faith.
