Morning Devotional:
I knew something was off as soon as I saw it. I was about to become prey for a scammer.
The email looked innocent enough. It was from a friend of mine, and it had a very normal subject in the subject line. The body of the email said my friend had something she wanted me to read. But the name of the document attached to the email? It looked fishy, and I’m really glad I didn’t open it because if I did, it was likely a virus that would have led to my computer being hacked. A quick phone call to my friend confirmed that she hadn’t emailed me at all. Instead, it was a scammer trying to use my friend’s email address to get me to open the file and help them gain access to whatever they wanted.
Cyber security is big business these days. The industry itself was valued at more than 155 billion dollars in the U. S. in 2022, and it’s only getting bigger. We have to be vigilant when it comes to protecting our online assets but do you know what is more important? Protecting our spiritual security! We have an enemy who is “on the prowl like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour,” as Peter writes in 1 Peter 5:8. But we have the authority and the power to tell him to flee in Jesus’ name. He is your spiritual anti-virus software, so when the enemy comes calling, take authority over him and hit delete.
