Morning Devotional:
I have a relative who at times is not much of a conversationalist. When I call him up on the phone and he is in a certain mood, our chat can be pretty short. It usually goes like this:
Me: “Hi there! How are you doing?”
Him: “Fine.”
Me: “How was your day at work today?”
Him: “Rough.”
Me: “Uh oh. I heard you’re looking for a new job. Any good leads out there?”
Him: “Nope.”
Me: “What’s happening with the family? Anything new?
Him: “No.”
You get the drift, right? One-sided conversations are tough to maintain, even tougher to invest in and nearly impossible to receive from. They leave you hungry for more connection.
Have you ever been in a one-sided conversation with God? Have you ever gone to the Lord and offered up the short, choppy prayer and later wonder why God doesn’t respond to your requests? Prayer is conversation, an investment in relationship and the opportunity to pour out our heart to God in complete trust that He hears us and cares about what concerns us. Jesus himself prayed to the Father for hours on end – even all night, as it says in Luke 6:12. If He took the time to pray and converse with our Daddy God, shouldn’t we? Don’t cut your prayer time with Him short.
