Morning Devotional:
So the faucet in my bathroom sink broke a while back. That pull thing that you use to close the drain? The top of it came off in my hand one morning and when it did, the rest of it fell through the hole and down into the vanity below. This happened at around 4:00 in the morning, which is obviously not the most ideal time to start a home repair.
I have no experience fixing faucets but I didn’t think it would be too hard to take care of so I went to the hardware store, bought the parts I thought I would need and tried to fix it the following day. Note the word “tried” in that sentence. I got the drain to close – but I haven’t exactly been able to get it to open back up without some additional intervention from my fingertips.
There are some things that we have to admit we can’t fix on our own. I can’t fix plumbing problems, I can’t fix cars, and none of us can fix the problem of sin. Sin is a problem we all have and we can’t deny that. The apostle John tells us in his first letter, “If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.” But God has provided the perfect solution for our sinful nature in His son Jesus Christ and what He did for us on the cross, all so that we could live in the joy of this wonderful promise: “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
We can’t fix the problem of sin but God already did. Let’s praise the Father for the gift of His Son.
