Burning Question:
It’s National Middle Child Day! When did you feel invisible?
Morning Devotional:
I was minding my own business Sunday afternoon when I heard it. A faint whistle from across the house that got increasingly louder and louder.
For the life of me, I could not figure out where it was coming from. It wasn’t my phone or any of my other electronic devices scattered throughout the house. When I finally discovered the source, I couldn’t believe it.
It was my toilet. What’s worse, as soon as I discovered the toilet was the source of the squealing, it stopped only to start up again a few minutes later. The game continued for the next half hour or so until I decided to open up the tank and do some investigation.
Isn’t it annoying when tiny problems create major disturbances to your peace?
It’s often like that anxiety that can hum in the background of your mind and soul that makes it hard to hear God’s still small voice.
Paul reminds us in Philippians 4:6-7, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” The solution to the spiritual “whistle” isn’t just to ignore it, but to bring the noise to God. When we do, He will replace that irritating hum of anxiety with the peace you need so you can rest in Him.
