The Trial Run<\/b><\/p>\n

Our church had a Valentine\u2019s banquet last weekend, and my daughter Kalvary was in charge of the menu and the cooking. The menu was simple enough\u2014salad, rice, carrots, chicken with a white sauce. Nothing too fancy.<\/span><\/p>\n

She decided to do a trial run on Wednesday.<\/span><\/p>\n

The result? Almost all bad.<\/span><\/p>\n

The sauce didn\u2019t turn out. The chicken wasn\u2019t great. She tried making the rice in a roaster\u2014the top was mush, and the bottom wasn\u2019t even cooked.<\/span><\/p>\n

I was stressed for her. I was worried.<\/span><\/p>\n

She wasn\u2019t.<\/span><\/p>\n

She had learned some things.<\/span><\/p>\n

So Thursday night, she tried again. Everything improved. Adjustments were made. Lessons were applied. Then Friday night\u2014showtime. And it was amazing.<\/span><\/p>\n

It struck me how differently we handled the failure. I saw disaster. She saw development.<\/span><\/p>\n

That\u2019s often how God works in our lives. What feels like failure is often just a trial run. A lesson. An adjustment.<\/span><\/p>\n

James <\/b>says, <\/span>\u201cConsider it pure joy\u2026 whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Testing produces something. It teaches us what doesn\u2019t work. It refines us. It prepares us for \u201cshowtime.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
