When I was in high school, my family and I were staying at our cabin in Wisconsin when I came down with a nasty cold. I had taken a dose of cold and sinus medication I had never tried before, hoping it would help.<\/p>\n

I am rather sensitive to those kinds of medications and normally take a half dose, but this time I took the full amount indicated and it made me very drowsy. I fell asleep on the couch and woke up three hours later to darkness and an empty house. I thought, in my medicated stupor, that my family had abandoned me and went back home to Minnesota.\u00a0I got off the couch, tried to get my bearings and looked around, only to go outside and find my family in the yard, enjoying a campfire.<\/p>\n

Being left alone can be unnerving, even frightening – and this is no surprise to the Lord. As Jesus prepared His disciples for his death on the cross in John 14, He told them they would feel abandoned and alone. That’s why He gave them this comforting word:\u00a0 “I will not leave you as orphans. I will come to you.” He will do the same for you and me.<\/p>\n
