I\u2019ll tell her first to \u201csit,\u201d and she\u2019ll do it. She\u2019s good at sit. When it comes to learning the new trick, though, she doesn\u2019t have the patience for it. If she can\u2019t convince me to give her the treat right away, she\u2019s trying to grab the treat from my hand. She thinks eating that treat is far more important than learning the new trick, which would earn her more treats down the road.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How often are we like my Abbie in our relationship with God? He\u2019s trying to teach us patience, trust, or humility, but we get distracted by our own plans and desires. I bolt after things that seem more attractive, things I think are better for me. The Bible reminds us, though, that a wise heart is a teachable one. Proverbs 9:9 says, &#8220;Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be still wiser; teach a righteous man, and he will increase in learning.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We have to remember that God is a patient Master who is training us for our own good.
