What did you do with your kids that sounded like a good idea at the time, but didn\u2019t work out so well?<\/span><\/p>\n

Wait for it\u2026<\/b><\/p>\n

My wife and I went hiking with a few of our kids, as we often do, and I was thrilled to stumble upon a wild plum tree. The fruit looked perfect\u2014nice-sized and mostly ripe for wild plums. Excited, I grabbed a few and popped one into my mouth.<\/span><\/p>\n

At first, it was delicious. A burst of sweetness filled my mouth. But as the flavor lingered, the skin and pulp quickly turned sour. Curious how my daughter Mercy would react, I handed one to her. She took a bite, and right away I could see she thought it tasted wonderful. \u201cWait for it\u2026\u201d I said. A few seconds later, her face scrunched up as the sourness hit, and she promptly spit it out. Still, she laughed and asked for another one.<\/span><\/p>\n

Life has a way of being like that wild plum. Something looks good, feels good, or even starts off sweet\u2014but if it\u2019s not rooted in God\u2019s goodness, the aftertaste can be bitter. Sin often promises sweetness at the beginning, but it always leaves behind regret, emptiness, or hurt.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Bible reminds us in <\/span>Proverbs 14:12<\/b>, <\/span>\u201cThere is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death.\u201d<\/span><\/i> The sweetness of sin is temporary, but the bitterness lasts much longer. On the other hand, when we wait for the Lord and trust in Him, the taste doesn\u2019t turn sour\u2014it leads to true and lasting joy.<\/span><\/p>\n

So the next time life hands you something that looks good, pause and ask God for wisdom. Don\u2019t just bite into what looks sweet\u2014wait for it. God\u2019s way may take longer, but His goodness never turns sour.<\/span><\/p>\n
