I love being able to go home for a long holiday weekend for one big reason. I don\u2019t have to cook.<\/span><\/p>\n

There\u2019s something really great about going home to my parents\u2019 place, being able to sit at the same kitchen table I sat at as a child and eating my mother\u2019s meatloaf, or her spaghetti hot dish. It always takes me back to that place of peace and safety. When we sit down for a meal, we not only eat, but we laugh, we reminisce – we take in that which is good. The old adage is true – \u201ca meal shared nurtures the soul.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

In the gospels, there is a very important meal that takes place that not only nurtured souls but anchored the early church in the great sacrifice Jesus made for us. On the night He was betrayed, Jesus took bread and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, \u201cThis is my body, which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.\u201d In the same way, after supper He took the cup, saying, \u201cThis cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of Me.\u201d That\u2019s a meal that not only nurtures my soul but also brings me to a place of worship and praise to the One who gave His life for me.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
