Have you ever noticed how plastic wrap is great at clinging, but terrible at clinging to what you want it to cling to? I wanted to save some leftovers last night so I went to cover my dish and put it in the fridge. I pulled out the box of plastic wrap, tugged at the wrap to get a piece and did it come out straight? Nope. Could I cut it straight? No, because it was sticking to itself before I knew it. Sure enough, the sheet had folded in on itself a number of times, forming a crumpled, useless ball.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It was a pretty good picture of my day, actually. The things I tried to hold on to for security – my plans, my own strength – all got pretty messy and eventually collapsed.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

But we have an invitation from God, one that says we can cling to something – or rather, Someone – who is the complete opposite of flimsy. David understood this when he wrote in Psalm 63, “Because you are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings. I cling to you; your right hand upholds me” (Psalm 63:7-8).<\/span><\/p>\n

When we cling to Him, we aren\u2019t grabbing at something weak. We are clinging to our ultimate strength. The best part is that He holds us back in a secure, strong grip.<\/span><\/p>\n
