My grandmother sent me a friend request on Facebook.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This was quite a surprise for me, as both of my grandmothers passed away years ago. One of my grandmothers did have a Facebook account shortly before she died, and as I looked closer, it looked like this account was actually brand new, as if someone was trying to impersonate her. I did what I could to block the request and the profile, but the experience stuck with me. Who would do that, and why?<\/span><\/p>\n

It made me think about how we as believers are called to be wise about who and what we allow into our lives. We know the world is full of imitations and as believers, we fight a spiritual battle every day against an enemy who is known as a deceiver. I was reminded of 1 John 4:1 where it says, “Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.”\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A fake social media profile may not be a false prophet, but I think the principle is the same. We have to be in the Word, grounding ourselves in the truth of God\u2019s Word so we can recognize the lie. Let\u2019s make a point to know what is real and reject what is fake, whether it’s a worldly philosophy or a fake Facebook account.<\/span><\/p>\n
