I watched a documentary over the weekend that talked about the Lockheed U-2 spy plane. I\u2019m not normally into that kind of stuff but this particular show was fascinating to me because the host got to be a passenger on a flight.<\/span><\/p>\n

Flying the U-2 takes the utmost of skill. For this host to merely ride in this plane required a full week of intense training. The altitude they would climb to would be 70,000 feet, so the host would have to learn how to wear a full pressure suit and pass a test to see if he could handle the G-forces of the ascent. Just to get the plane in the air takes dozens of ground support personnel. To actually fly the plane takes <\/span>every ounce of a pilot’s mental and physical strength.<\/span><\/p>\n

I loved the fact that as the host of the show marveled at the view from 70,000 feet above the earth, he contrasted the complexity of his flight to that of an eagle. He shared how eagle doesn’t have to fight for the wind velocity needed for flight; it uses what\u2019s already there. It uses air currents to lift itself higher and higher with little effort.<\/span><\/p>\n

When we are faced with the difficulties of life, we’re not meant to grit our teeth and power through them on our own. Instead, we’re given a different invitation: Isaiah 40:31 says, \u201cBut those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not faint.”<\/span><\/p>\n

God renews our strength, enabling us to soar even when our own power is depleted. So, next time you feel like you’re in a demanding flight, remember the eagle, and let God lift you up.<\/span><\/p>\n
