Take for instance, the metal bench I have on my front patio. I use this bench every day, but this spring I started noticing some tell-tale signs of wear. Okay, one big sign – orange spots on the bench indicating the first signs of rust.

I know I need to take care of this problem, but as the weeks have gone by, I’ve been putting off the task. But yesterday, while I was enjoying our beautiful weather, I thought, “Alright, enough is enough. This bench needs some serious attention.”

While I was mentally gearing up for the scrubbing and scraping – and checking to see if I had the right tools for the job – my mind happened to drift to 1 John 1:9, which says this: “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” I couldn’t help but notice a tie-in to my rusty situation.

Rust is a very visible sign of deterioration. When you see rust, you know there’s a weakness that needs to be corrected. Sin can be just as corrosive. Our sins create a barrier between us and God, but we have an incredible promise from Him! God doesn’t just offer to patch up our sins; He promises to cleanse us completely.

I’m ready to tackle this bench. I’ve got my wire brush, my rust remover, and I’m prepared to put in the elbow grease. God is even more ready to tackle the “rust” in our hearts. All we need to do is confess them to Him, and He as our faithful Father will forgive and cleanse us. That’s a promise far more powerful than any rust remover on the market.

– Beth

Bible Quiz:

Question: Who stoned the Amorites while Joshua led an attack on them?

Answer: The Lord (Joshua 10:11)

Storytime: There was No Wallet!

Just one more thing!

What Day is it?
