\u00a0It can feel especially tough to find a job when you’re a teenager. My son Malachi has been trying for a couple of years now. The plan was for him to get a job after he turned 16, and he gave it a solid effort\u2014applying to several places and even landing a few interviews. But last summer, nothing came through.<\/span><\/p>\n

This year has been a little different. While there were still a few false starts and dead-end applications, something shifted. Malachi is now a year older, quite a bit taller, and\u2014most importantly\u2014he has his own transportation. He just looks more like a \u201cready-to-work\u201d kind of candidate. And wouldn\u2019t you know it\u2014he finally landed his first job!<\/span><\/p>\n

As a dad, I\u2019m excited to watch him take this next step\u2014learning responsibility, gaining experience, and hopefully finding some joy in work. But it also reminds me of something deeper: timing matters. God\u2019s timing, in particular.<\/span><\/p>\n

We can work, plan, and knock on doors, but sometimes we don’t see results right away. It\u2019s easy to get discouraged, to wonder if our effort is in vain. But just like Malachi\u2019s job finally came through at the right time, God has a way of opening doors when we\u2019re ready\u2014and when the time is right.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHumble yourselves, therefore, under God\u2019s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.\u201d \u20141 Peter 5:6 (NIV)<\/span><\/p>\n

So if you’re in a waiting season right now, keep trusting. Keep showing up. Just because nothing is happening <\/span>yet<\/span><\/i> doesn\u2019t mean nothing <\/span>will.<\/span><\/i> God is preparing you\u2014and the opportunity\u2014so that when it does come, it\u2019s right.<\/span><\/p>\n
