There was a great victory in my house yesterday. I executed a wildly successful baking spree, complete with a batch of the best chocolate chip cookies I think I have ever made. They were gooey on the inside, the perfect firmness on the outside, they held their shape and form nicely and they were the perfect golden brown color. They were so good!<\/span><\/p>\n

I was also rejoicing because they were almost the worst batch of cookies I have ever made.<\/span><\/p>\n

With only me in the house, I never bake a full batch of cookies. I always halve a recipe when I can, and that is what I did yesterday. I was doing well with all of the measurements, except for one. When the time came for the baking soda, instead of halving the amount, I somehow quadrupled it. Thankfully I caught my mistake before I added the dry ingredients into the wet mix so all I needed to do was start over with the flour and salt combo and I was set. Perfect, yummy cookies were ready to enjoy in no time, without the overpowering taste of excess baking soda.<\/span><\/p>\n

One of the greatest promises of the Bible is in Romans 8:28: \u201c<\/span>And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.<\/span>\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Notice that verse does not say that everything is good. The way God works all things together for good is kind of like baking. There will be elements that are bitter and make you think, \u201cThat doesn\u2019t taste good at all.\u201d Sometimes our attitudes about what\u2019s going on around us add to the bitterness, leaving that sour taste in our mouths.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

If that\u2019s you today, make the choice to see the positive in your circumstances, because there are positive things that will come out of what you\u2019re going through. Just dough needs the bitterness of baking soda to rise, God uses the good and the bad to bring forth the sweetness of His plan for us.<\/span><\/p>\n
