The chaos of the situation finally got the best of me over the weekend, prompting me to spend the first part of my Saturday morning tackling a long-overdue project. It was time to organize, downsize and clean my walk-in closet.<\/span><\/p>\n

This was no small task, as this little room held everything from off-season clothes to mementos I have been holding on to for decades. It also served as the dumping ground for anything that I deemed worthy of a better home at a later date, when I could carve out the time to find one.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The deeper I dug into the mess, the more I found to either relocate or toss. I was quite pleased with the progress, until I found something I hadn\u2019t seen in a long time.<\/span><\/p>\n

It was a trophy I had won in high school, and it was broken in half.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The award was one I had fought for years to achieve, the highest fine arts award a student could earn in my high school. The day I won it was the pinnacle of my entire high school experience, and I treasured that award.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

When I found it in pieces, I realized I didn\u2019t really mind. That award got me nowhere in life and meant nothing compared to serving the Lord the way I am now and the rewards I have received from knowing Him.<\/span><\/p>\n

In Colossians 3, Paul says, \u201cWhatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.\u201d It is nice to get a pat on the back from other people but that doesn\u2019t always happen. God\u2019s rewards are so much better, and His future reward should be what keeps us going.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
